Endurance Karting Race for Charity

Total Orthopaedics are heading to the race track to support Made in Hackney.

On Saturday 2 October, Total Orthopaedics consultants will be pit against each other in an endurance karting race for their annual charity event. The group will be split into four teams, racing each other head to head at the grueling outdoor track at Revolution Karting in East London.

All of the funds raised will support the plant-based cookery school Made in Hackney. This charity’s mission is aligned with our belief of giving back to the community and providing holistic care to our patients. The group places a strong emphasis on overall health and nutrition, with Mr Rajiv Bajekal leading this as a board-certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. Find out more about Rajiv’s path to understanding the benefits of Lifestyle Medicine and plant-based nutrition first-hand.

About Made in Hackney

Since their inception in 2012, Made in Hackney have worked with over 20,000 people as a plant-based community cookery school. The heartbeat of their organisation is their cookery and food growing classes, held not only in their own community venue but also in kitchens and community spaces across London. Their life changing cookery courses and classes empower people to change their eating and shopping habits for their own health – and that of the planet too. Each year they work with over 4000 individuals at over 300 classes and events.

The kitchen started as a response to global and local crises – health inequalities, food access and climate change. These interconnected issues drive their mission to bring about positive change in the areas of community, health and environment with delicious, culturally varied, nutritious plant-based food at the centre of all they do.

“Our beneficiaries tell us we have helped them with the remission of type 2 diabetes, healing chronic bowel disorders, improving chronic fatigue symptoms, helping to manage depression, as well as forming new friendships, starting a window ledge garden, gaining the skills and confidence to start a food business or learning to cook for the first time at the age of 82!”
